Some observations on this topic...
I find it interesting that Raven has written lengthy posts with factual
information from her own life and experiences. she has included links to
well known, established and accepted resources like the Whole Dog Journal.
She has not once told anyone that they should feel guilty for their choices.
She has encouraged conscious, intelligent decision making.
Others have referred to people like Raven as nuts and everyone else as
normal. I have seen no links to any journal articles talking about the
nutrition of the types of foods fed by recommendation from their vet such
as Science Diet, Iams or Purina.
I would like to point out that no one can make another feel any which way.
Your feelings are your own. If you're feeling guilty over your food
choices, why is that?
I feed a kibble because that is what works for me. I don't feel guilty
about it. I don't feel like I'm abusing my dogs or treating them badly. It
is my choice and I take full responsibility for it.
Some things about dog food that you may not know...the information for my
small pet nutrition class provided to me when I was in vet tech school was
provided to the college by Hills for free. The food for the dogs in the
kennels was also provided by Hills for free. It was a pretty sweet deal
for both Hills and the college.
My husband, who is a farmer and used to also raise cattle, has personally
sold cows to the Iams dog food factory. He has described in detail the
condition of the cows when they left the farm. They were not able to be
sold at the higher prices to the human food companies. Many were dead,
sometimes had been dead for a while, bloated in the sun, before the truck
arrived to pick them up.
I live in an agricultural area and am married to a farmer. I am fortunate
to know where much of my food comes from. It's not quite as glamorous as
the commercials lead you to believe.
