[nagdu] using a tie down

I've always used tie-downs, never used a crate. I have the tie-downs in my bedroom and in the living room. I rarely use them though. I would use them in the first bit after I'd come home from training with a new dog, and depending on the dog I'd use the tie-down for a few days to a few weeks. In the first few years I had guide dogs, I used the tie-down for longer periods in the beginning. But with the last several dogs, I've barely used it at all, maybe just for a few days. If I ever used it after the initial home coming period, it would be maybe if things were being moved in or out, anything that might require the front door to be open and me unable to hold onto my dog. Now I own my own condo and I have a private yard, so I don't even bother with that, because Petunia can just run in the yard and watch things. I never used the tie-down when guests would come over. If it was perhaps a meeting of some kind, not just friends or family visiting, I would just put my dog on leash and keep them at my side during the meeting.

Subject: [nagdu] using a tie down

Hello all!

I’m thinking of implementing the use of a tie down with Jetta. I have tried them with other dogs, but have not used a tie down for more than once in a great while. I get what a tie down is, how to use it in the sense of what it looks like, how it connects, what sort of collar to use and those aspects. What I’m interested in learning more about is how you use tie downs in your daily routine. Do you use it only at specific times, like meals or when people come to your home? If you also use a crate, when do you use each? Do you have multiple tie down places throughout your home? How long do you keep your dog on tie down?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this!
Julie
