[nagdu] using a tie down

Julie,
When Jetta starts barking, what do you do when she doesn't stop or
you've just had enough?
Goldens are notorious for being watch dogs, so anytime there are
animals outside, someone pulls into the driveway, or a dog's barking
nearby, it sets the Golden Guy off growling, howling, and barking.
Usually, dogs will stop after a bit. But if my dog feels the need to
keep "rambling on" I call him to me. When he comes, I reward him, just
praise, petting, something like that, and I have him lay down so he
can't run back to the window to see what's going on. There of course
are times when he jumps up and goes back to the window, so I will go
stand between him and the window, or distract him with a toy.
And you've tried rewarding silence?
You've probably already tried this stuff being an experienced trainer,
but we do sometimes forget the basics every once in a while.

I do think the tie-down is a good idea for Jetta when your ol' boy
needs a break from that energetic youngen. :)
