[nagdu] Our Dogs In the Winter

Keep in mind that a dog raised in a colder place, like the northeast will have gotten used to it and will grow a thicker coat than say, a dog from CA or the deep south.
I live in New Orleans and my dog can work for miles in 90 degree heat at 80% humidity because she is used to it. Take her out and ask her to work at temps under 45 degrees and she shivers and literally cries because she gets so cold— she's a lab.
I dress my dog in a hoodie if the temp drops below 45. I like hoodies because they cover her tummy and chest, are easy to wash, and can be stored in a backpack. We don't have snow, so I don't need a waterproof coat.
If your dog is not used to snow or cold, you may want to get a light coat just in case, and either musher wax, or boots if it snows.
Good luck.

> I hate the Ruff Ware boots that many schools give out because the dogs really seem to hate and act goofy in them. Those boots prevent dogs from walking naturally, and remove the feeling of contact between their foot and the ground. Also, the 1st winter I had the Golden Guy, the friction in those Ruff Ware boots ripped his dew claw sockets open, so I have sworn off those things for good.
