[NAGDU] grooming tips and suggestions

Raul, you're right that every dog is different. My last dog was a black Lab
and she shed constantly. She had a typical Lab coat, but her hair was long
and oily. it stuck everywhere and was nearly impossible to keep off the
floor and furniture, even with regular grooming and vacuuming. My current
dog is a Yellow Lab Golden Cross and her hair is completely different. She
sheds, but it seems like the amount and consistency is nothing like Katy's,
I can tell when I run the vacuum and empty the lint filter on the dryer.
Hopefully you'll get one of these dogs because it's much easier to keep
yourself and the dog groomed.

I've used a zoom groom and a metal slicker brush on my last two dogs. The
zoom groom loosens and lifts up the top coat and the slicker brush gets the
under coat.

One thing I've found is that getting the zoom groom wet before you start
brushing makes the fur stick in the grooves of the zoom groom and you can
just pluck it out when the brush is full.

I made a homemade coat conditioner and finishing spray with some water,
sweet almond oil and fractionated coconut oil, along with a bit of
peppermint and lemon essential oils. This makes Paige's fur softer and less
uh doggie smelling, plus it has some insect repellant properties, though I
still use Bravecta once every three months.

I spray a bit of this on the zoom groom before I start brushing and I can
get a huge amount of hair off of her even when she's not actively shedding.

Inside me there's a thin person struggling to get out, but I can usually
sedate her with four or five cupcakes.
