Hi, Gary, I have a dog who was a returned dog. By the time I got him he was 3 years old. If your school is anything like where I went, the dog comes back for retraining and hopefully the trainers or maybe kennel staff will spend some quality time with the dog as well, to help with the transition. When you are given the dog, it's really important to spend time with him and give him a lot of encouragement, I'd say a little extra effort to reassure him and build his confidence. My dog worked out very well and I've had him for 9 years now and I couldn't have asked for a better dog. If you're interested in the retrained dog, go check him out and give him a chance and if it's not the right dog for you, you'll know and don't hesitate to let the school know either way.
All the best to you!
Charlene

Subject: [NAGDU] re returned guide dog questions?
Hello everyone:
As you all might recall Bogart died last month. my school just called me to tell me that they have a returned dog that could be ready for me next month. he will be 2 yeasts old.
Has anyone had a returned dog and how was it? how did the Rodgers do with bonding to you? this is a poodle so a bit tougher on the bonding but would like to get moreinfo. also, this dog is quite a bit smaller than Bogart was. will that make a huge difference in guiding?
thanks
gary
