[NAGDU] A Clarification. Was, "Guide Dog Worries 2."

Hi, Jen.

As others have said, worrying about managing your time isn't as big of a
problem as you might think. My last dog class was a mix of retrains and
experienced dog users and even the first-timers picked up on the schedule.
One guy even had his iPhone play the bark alarm sound when it was time to go
outside. The school staff even stopped reminding us about the designated
time after about the first week, only letting us know if we somehow got off
schedule due to traffic or something outside of our control.

Most of the worry about how to know when it's time to go out will disappear
as you and your dog become used to each other.

I also agree with others who purposely vary their dog's schedule once
they're back home. Even if you have a very routine lifestyle, keeping your
dog flexible is a good thing. The dog needs to learn to behave even if you
can't get outside at the usual time. there are all kinds of reasons besides
distraction. You might be sick or there might be a huge snow or rain storm
or you might want to sleep in an extra hour or finish that exciting book or
movie. Most of our dogs can be weaned off of the regimented schedule they
were trained with and I don't know of any school that would insist you stay
on their schedule once you've gotten home with the dog.

I'm great at multi-tasking. I can waste time, be unproductive, and
procrastinate all at once.
