All of us that have been to a Guide Dog school have their favorites. I
have gotten 3 dogs from GDF and am very comfortable with them. I think
why there are some similarities between GDB and GDF is the last Director
of training came from GDB. He has since retired and I don't know who is
director now. GDF has been very, very supportive to my needs. The thing
that has set them apart is their customization. I live in an environment
that is totally different from mainstream America. GDF has realized this
and have always accommodated me even with different directors of
training. That says a whole lot about them. As far as financial support,
yes they do provide a vet stipend but my experience has been when a
catastrophic event has occurred they were right there to lend me help
and direction. Also....the most important thing is they have a fabulous
chef. I sure as hell didn't lose any weight while I was there! If he
ever retires.....I may have to look for another school!!! :-)
This is just my own experiences. As with everything, there are always
pros and cons. Good luck making a decision.
