Hello Allison.

To answer your question about Braille and italic symbols, there are opening italics and closing italics symbol indicators. They all use dots 4,6 as their prefix, which is the way that the American English Braille used to do it. However, the difference is that there are different types of indicators such as for italicizing the whole word, a character or even a whole phrase, which is probably you are seeing the dot 3 at the end of an italics text indicator. This is because dots 4-6, and dot 3 are used to indicate that the italics text of a phrase or item has ended and it's back to normal text with normal formatting.

Hope this answers your question ad this makes sense to you.

Have an awesome day!

Humberto

I would recommend that you find things that interest the person and begin there. It really depends on their ability to learn to read.

We have had some students with intellectual disabilities in some of our BELL programs, and they have learned some braille. Just as with other children, they learn best the things they are interested in, and there is no reason they can't learn as much braille as they are able to absorb.

What is some advice you would give on how to teach a child with visual Impairment and other disabilities braille? Has any taught a blind child with down syndrome? I'm asking because I'm studying to be a para educator of infants, toddlers, an preschoolers with visual Impairments. Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Can someone please explain UEB rules around emphasis marks - italics? I sometimes see a dot 3 after a 4 6, is that an error, is that normal, or does it vary?

Thanks,
Allison
