[nfb-db] Special Needs Program at Guiding Eyes

One thing that you will find different about HKNC is that you are the leader
of your training program. You can choose to use your guide dog while there
but, yes, they will probably give you some cane training but you can still
have your dog with you. For example, when I first went to HKNC, I would
walk with my guide from the dorm to the training Center and do my classes
with him but when I got to the O&M classs; depending on what I was supposed
to do...if it was cane training, then I left my guide in the trainer's
office until we were finished with that training. I think this is meant to
see how well trained you are with the cane just in case you are ever in a
situation when you do not have your guide.

Thank you, Darlene. I have been accepted in the Special Needs Program at
Guiding Eyes and I am waiting on them to find a match for me. The reason I
was asking about HKNC about guide dogs is that some training centers require
to use a cane during the day regardless if you have a dog or not. i was
wondering if this was the case at HKNC?
