[NFB-DB] my thoughts on the captioning trial during last Thursday's presidential release.

Hello Maurice.
I, too, wish this conversation could have happened prior to
convention. I reached out to the NFB prior to it to offer my
assistance in testing, and I think a couple of other division members
did the same, but as far as I know, our assistance was never taken.
So, here we are now, and at least we are making progress even if it's
later than we hoped. This year was a trial run for a lot of people who
were doing the virtual convention for the first time. This request for
feedback is a part of the effort to make things more accessible for
all next summer. I suspect we will be having another virtual
convention, but who knows?
TO clarify, they used live captioners at the event and the Zoom
feature which allows them to have live captioning. There is a Zoom
plug-in called Rev Live Captions, which provides automatic captions,
this is not what the NFB used. Live captioners, yes, that plug in for
Zoom, no. I'm not sure where the break down in clarity happened, but I
suspect it is partially because of that name. I'm just glad we are
moving forward with this!
Thanks for your feedback concerning the presidential release. Were you
using Mac OS with VoiceOver and a braille display or an iOS device to
follow the captions? I'm glad you had success with it in either case.
