Chris, the first president of the NfB, was Dr. Jacobus TenBroek, The second
president in 1961, was John Taylor, the third one was Perry Sonquist, the
fourth one was Russel Clexing, the next one was Dr. Jacobus TenBroek, who
was elected president in 1966, who unfortunately died on March 27, 1968.
The first Vice-President was Dr. Jernigan, who was elected in his own right
in 1968.
Ralph Sanders was president for only one year, 1977, to 1978.
After Dr. Jernigan steped down in 1986, Dr. Marc Maurer was elected
president, and he will be up for re-election in 2012.

No. Ralph Sanders was president of the Federation in 1978.
There are
folks on this list who when in the movement then who can better
speak of
why Dr. Jernigan was not. If I remember correctly it was for
health
reasons. Anyone wish to fill in the gaps in my memory?
I would like to say one more thing about Mr. Sanders. In
listening to
his speech it is obvious the leadership thought a lot of him at
the
time. They referred to him as "our young president". It made
me very
sad to hear that considering how things turned out.

I do not know all the criteria for a recording to be included on
the nfb
website. I'm sure it is a case by case basis. I do know the
reason the
1978 banquet address by Ralph Sanders is not included. Mr.
Sanders put
himself in the position of being an opponent of the Federation
some time
after he served as president. Taking this into consideration,
understand the speech itself is not by any means a great speech
and does
not further our cause by being posted. I suppose that is one
criteria
for inclusion on the national website. The recording has to
further our
cause. The national website is not a depository for all things
historical concerning the Federation. The library is. (I
think)

audiovisual

You sent those tapes to me. I've done a little research on the
subject to refresh my memory and found the original thread that
led to
you sending me the tapes. There was an interest in hearing the
1978
Banquet address by Ralph Sanders. You stated you had a record
of it
and told anyone who wanted it to contact you. You then posted
the
following:
"Hi Ryan, I just put my 12 inch record on to a cassette tape,
and I
will send it to Michael Freholm either tomorrow or Monday.
The second side of that record is where Kenneth Jernigan
addressed The
Brotherhood of Teamsters on August 15, 1978.
I used a small Cassette Recorder, and a Talkingbook Record
player.
I also recorded Why I am a Federationist and Disability and
Visibility
By Kenneth Jernigan.
I believe both speeches were done in 1974.

I made a digital recording of the Banquet Address and the speech
to
the Teamsters and, if memory serves, I sent a copy to RyanO. My
main
interst was of the Banquet speech. I just wanted to hear it and
so
did others but the National Office is in no way interested in
putting
this on the website and, thus, we will not be putting this up on
a
Living History website. And even if we were, the sound quality
is not
very good. I made a digital recording of a tape recording of a
12
inch record. The recordings are not of the quality to be put up
on
the national website. As for the other two Jernigan speeches,
the
quality wasn't good enough. Perhaps the national office could
do a
better job in making a digital copy than I.
I still have the tapes you sent me Ken and will bring them to
Orlando
and return them to you. if you are going to be there. I
apologize
for any misunderstanding concerning the final destination of
these
recordings. I was interested in possibly putting them up on the
living history website once it's up and running but do not
recall
saying I would get them put up on the national website. My
apologizes
again for any misunderstanding.

was planning on posting the same question tomorrow but you beat
me to
it. I was also hoping to announce some other stuff but I don't
have
confirmation yet.... Nevertheless, it's important that we don't
duplicate recordings (not that it will really hurt anything but
it
would be a waste of resources.) and we need to make sure that
important things get recorded. If anyone has any suggestions in
this
matter please post them to the list.
The Living History meeting is scheduled for Sunday June 3 from 7
to
