[Nfb-krafters-korner] Monday Night Chat

For circular knitting needle organization, I keep the non-interchangeable
ones in zippered pencil pouches that have holes for a binder. I stick a
Braille label on the outside of each pencil pouch with the size. For my
straight knitting needles, I have a 3 drawer chest which I put dividers
inside of to section each drawer into 4 or 5 slots. On the back of each
divider, again, I stuck a dimo label with the needle sizes. So in drawer #1
from front to back my straights & DPNS are organized from size 0 to 4.
Second drawer from front to back goes from size 5 through 9; third drawer
from size 10-15. I used to keep them in a very large tin that came with
Christmas popcorn balls in it, but like you mentioned, it was a jumbled mess
even with the use of a needle gauge it was painful trying to sort through
the needles. Even though my drawer system can get messed up and out of
order, it is much easier to tackle and re-organize when the need arises.

As for yarns, I've gotten better with keeping track, but my system keeps
evolving. After last night's chat, I like the idea of putting a number on
the outside of each box and then maintaining a master list of what is in
each plastic storage box. Within each box, I have the sweater storage bags
that are zip-lock in style for larger quantities of yarn. In each bag I put
an index card with the brand, name and color of the yarn. If I only have a
few smaller balls of anyone type of yarn, I sometimes use the 1 gallon food
zip lock bags from the grocery store. The plastic sweater bags, I buy
through QVC.

HTH.
