First of all, what material do you do tapistry on? Is it a tiny holed canvis, like needle point or larger? Size 16 needles are just large enough to double the yarn, squeeze it and slide it into the eye of the needle. If you go up in size, the eye will be bigger and the thickness of the neddle might be a little thicker. These needles come in blunt and I have also run into some pointed ones. I can use either one. I do not know if it says on the package. Blunt needles are good for beginners especially those who are diabetic or who do not have tough fingers. Mine are rather tough from crafts and playing the guitar, but I can still read braille with no trouble. Your fingers can be tough and also be sensitive enough to read braille.
You can buy a single size of needle, usually in a pack of two or a pack of needles ranging in size.
Some kind of change purce is great for needles and folding or mini sizzors.
Ask away if you have any more questions.

Terry P.

I am not sure, so anyone jump in here , if there is sizes the bigger the needle the larger the eye and the easier for you to get yarn through it.

Terr P. uses needle point needles for her plastic canvas and she uses worstered weight yarn. It seems to me she had said she uses size 16 needles.
They are blunt needles with large eyes.

I don't know if this will help you.
