The closest I came to making pottery is when I signed up for a pottery class
in college. However, the first day, I entered the ceramics room and
discovered how incredibly slippery the floor was, and I, having brittle
bones, felt it was way too dangerous to risk falling and fracture my back
just to learn pottery. So I dropped pottery and added public speaking. (Now
that was really dangerous...*smile* at least I was one who got very nervous
doing public speaking. I heard of a study once that of a list of things
most people are terrified to do, public speaking beats out dying in some
people's minds. I'm not quite that bad, but it takes me a bit of work to
prepare something I am going to deliver to an audience.)
Anyway, how do you deal with the incredibly slippery floors in the pottery
room?
It's worse than ice.
It's like a frictionless surface.

I used to do pottery. I took three semesters of pottery in college and
learned to throw pots on the wheel, and also some handbuilding. Some years
later, when I was working at the Senior Center, I taught a pottery class
there for about ten years. The class was all handbuilding, and we glaised
and fired our things at the local community college. I had folks from age
40 to 90 and two alzheimers women. It was a wonderful class. We made
bowls, napkin rings, mugs, lamps, teapots, and little animals. I loved it.
I wish I had access to a kick wheel.

  Welcome, Lynda.

I am a photographer learning how to be a blind crafter. Feel free to jump
in
and ask any questions. We have many knitters here, both sighted turned
blind
and always blind. They can share many techniques with you.

Good news. We have a blind instructor that teaches classes via phone in
beading/jewelry making all the time. I think she is teaching a class about
once a month or every two months. She also makes homemade jams and jellies
and sells her jewelry at farmers' markets and fairs during the summer. Her
  name is Laurie Porter.

I do not remember if we have anyone on this list that does pottery or not.
However, if you don't get answers to your questions in this area, let me
know and I will get you in contact with someone that I know locally. She
isn't on this list and doesn't use email very often so I will have to call
  her.

  Again, welcome to the list.
