Staying a step behind on the Iphone might be a good solution to stay away 
from the bugs. That way, you can also have a lot of time to learn about the 
newer model before you even concidder buying it for yourself or just staying 
with the one that you are already happy with for a while. I know someone who 
still has an Iphone 3 I think it is and they are happy with it at least, as 
far as I know.
