This is also known as a yarn needle.  It can be metal or plastic and  it 
has a large eye so you can thread thick yarn thru it.  It is used to  weave in 
ends of yarn or sew seams and runyarn thru loops of stitches to close  up 
and opening.  Example top of a hat.
