I have to add to my friend's explaination of a tapersty needle...They are
usually longer than a regular sewing needle, with a larger eye hole to allow
heavier matierials to pass thru the eye. They come in plastic and metal. I
use a needle threader to thread these type of needles or a safety pin to
hook the end of yarn and then thru the eye, much easier this way. This type
of needle is used for finishing off a projects loose ends so they do not
become unwond. They come in packs of assorted sizes or only one large one.
Get a lot you will loose them.

It is sort of like a darning needle.  It is used to sew up yarn projects.
It will be used in the hat classes to assist in removing the hat from the
loom and closing up the crown of the hat.
If you purchase a round loom kit, the loom tool and the tapestry needle is
included.
