[Nfb-krafters-korner] pixie sewing machine

Hi Loren, here is what I do, but I am sure others will provide some more
ideas too.

I'm not sure why you would have both cones and spools, but these usually are
used for threading the machine from the top. I can use both types in my
machine, I think.
The bobbins ar the small, round holders, sometimes made of plastic or metal,
and they fit into a holder, usually on the throat plate of your machine,
near the needle. They hold the thread that will come from the bottom when
you are sewing if that makes sense.
My machine has a bobbin winder, which will let me wind some thread onto an
empty bobbin from a cone or spool of thread.
One thing I always do is when I buy thread for a certain project, say, a
certain shade of purple, I always buy two spools. One I will use to thread
from the top. The other spool I use to wind the bobbin from. I do this
because often, because your bobbin is quite small, you are likely to have to
fill it with thread numerous times during a sewing project. Having only one
spool means that, whenever your bobbin thread is finished, you have to
unthread your spool from the top, wind the thread onto the bobbin and
rethread your top spool again.
Having two spools means you can simply leave the one top spool in place and
use the other to wind onto the empty bobbin.
It seems you have already winded bobbins, however, so for the moment you
don't have to worry about this piece of advice.
I use ziplock plastic baggies with Braille labels, large enough so I can
place at least two or maybe three spools and maybe a bobbin into. In this
way, I keep my black threads together. In your case, you might consider
putting your white spools, cones and bobbins together.
The bags also keep the threads from getting tangled up like they like to do
when kept loose in a container.
I know some sighted people like to keep all their bobbins together, but I
prefer to sort my thread according to color.
If you can, label your thread with a meaningful description like very light
blue, or navy blue, almost black.
As mentioned it is a good idea to buy your thread and fabric together. I
often ask the people at the fabric store to help me find matching thread.
Most people do it this way, so the staff usually won't mind and they know
what they have available, etc.
If you find thread that you like and that works well in your machine, make a
note of the brand name, because some threads can really cause problems and
frustration, no matter how good your sewing skills are.

Hi,

I got myself one of those K Mart specials for my birthday so I hope that now
someone can help me figure out stuff. The first thing is that there is
thread on 3 different kinds of thingies. Spools, cone-looking things and
bobbins (I think). When do you use which type of thread-holder? How do you
label the colors? (I know how to label the spools but not the bobbins or
cones. I am hoping someone in our craft group can show me how to use it but
I'll have to get some cloth first.

Thanks

Lauren

Blessings to you in the name of Jesus Christ "Then Peter said unto them
repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost," (Acts,
2:38.)
