[NFB-Krafters-Korner] Rib stich on a loom

 Hi, Sandy!

With an existing loop on your peg, place the tip of your loom tool in the groove of the peg & guide it to the bottom of the peg & behind the loop on the peg. Now turn your tool one quarter turn toward you so the tip of your tool is touching the base of the loom. The tool should still be between the loop & the peg.

Now, take your working yarn & place it under the loop on your peg, sort of laying the working yarn on the base of your loom. With the tip of your tool, you will grab the working yarn & scoop it up the groove of the peg to create a new loop. The working yarn should come up through the loop that is already on the peg. Make this new loop as large as you need or want.

Now, hold the new loop between the thumb & forefinger of your non-dominate hand. With your tool, take the old loop off the peg, letting it fall to the center of your loom. Your peg should now be empty. Now take the loop in your non-dominate hand & place it on the now empty peg. Finally, take your working yarn & give it a gentle pull. You have now created the Purl stitch!

When doing this stitch, think of it as diving down to the bottom of the ocean to scoop up pearls off the ocean floor.

Hope these directions are helpful.

Subject: [NFB-Krafters-Korner] Rib stich on a loom

I am making a scarf using a rib stich on a loom with 12 pegs. According to
YouTube, the rib stich is a combination of the knit stich and the purl
stich. I know how to do a Peral stich, but the way I do it I lose the loop
a lot and must start over. The way I do it is to take the loop off the loom
and then push my working yarn through the loop and then put the loop I just
made back on the peg. I want to know if someone can tell me a better way to
make a Peral stich without having to take the loop off the peg first.

Thanks

Sandy
