Julie, what state or city do you live in. I hope you will join the Lions.
They work both to prevent blindness and provide assistance to the blind. If
we are members, we can help guide their approach. In Boise the NFB does a
big bike-a-thon. One Lions Club helps buy preparing lunch for all the
riders. Another club puts up a big tent and takes it down afterward. I
also got a photographer from a third club to take pictures this year. They
volunteer their ehlp and like us better for it.

Another project here in Idaho is that the Lions are helping to fund a winter
camp for blind high school students and a summer camp for blind middle
school students. I am the liaizone between the School for the Blind and the
Lions. This didn't happen immediately, but I have been a member for about 7
years.

In Indiana the Lions have organized a Leos Club (teanagers) at the School
for the Blind. One of the teachers is also a Lion. This is a great
opportunity for the kids. As a part of this project, Lions help the kids to
come to some NFB conventions.

Of course, Lions help with a lot of community service, and I think it is
helpful for blind people to be a part of those things, too.

If you want to contact me off list, my email is rwnfbi at qwest.net. If you
decide to join, I hope you will keep us informed of the various projects you
are doing with your Lions Club.
