Hi there, 
 
The New Mexico Commission for the Blind, in collaboration with the Regional
Education Cooperative has invited you to a Zoom meeting entitled:
Self-Advocacy: Voting as a Blind Youth. The meeting is available to all
students ages 17-21. You do not need to presently be receiving services from
the Commission for the Blind to participate. 
 
Presentations will be given by the following representatives and
individuals: 
 
Nancy Schneider is the Statewide Transition Coordinator for the New Mexico
Commission for the Blind. She will share information about how the
Commission can help you to become a registered voter.
 
Robin Garrison is an advocate at Disability Rights New Mexico. She will
provide information about your rights as a voter with a disability, how to
request assistance at the polls, and what to do if you experience
discrimination while voting. 
 
Adelmo Vigil is the president of the National Federation of the Blind of New
Mexico. He will share information about how to request access to New
Mexico's Electronic Ballot Marking Tool
 
LaKeria Taylor is a recent graduate of Louisiana Tech University. She will
explain her experience voting as a young adult, and why she chooses to
exercise her right to vote.
 
Gabe Cazares graduated from Texas State University in 2015, and is now the
Director of the Houston Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities. He will
explain his experience voting as a young adult, and why he chooses to
exercise his right to vote. 
 
The meeting will be held twice, but the same information will be presented
at each meeting. You only need to register for the meeting on Tuesday,
September 29 at 7:00pm MT or Saturday, October 3 at 4:00pm MT. All questions
on the registration page are required to validate your eligibility to attend
this meeting. 
 
Registrations are accepted until 30 minutes before each scheduled meeting.

The Commission receives federal funds from the U.S. Department of Education
and from the Health and Human Services Department. For Federal Fiscal Year
2020, the Commission will receive approximately $5,050,503 for Vocational
Rehabilitation with a $1,366,909 state match; $55,500 for Supported
Employment with a $3,083 state match; $225,000 for Older Blind with a
$25,000 state match; and $59,800 for Independent Living with a $6,644 State
match."
