Bern:

Believe me, I understand about managing expenses with a slim wallet. Candor
impels me, however, to point out that there's a trade-off for not upgrading
one's screen-reader: even if you don't change, the computer environment
does, both in terms of software and in terms of the Internet (web content
and constructs, etc.). Unless you live in a cuccoon, sooner or later you
will find there are web pages that can't be properly interpreted by your
browser and your screen-reader because, like Omar Khayam's moving finger,
the computer environment has moved on. I don't know why this is such a
difficult concept for many blind folks to grasp: I suppose it's more
comforting to blame everything on Big Bad Corporations, i.e., screen-reader
manufacturers.

I'm not saying everyone should upgrade although I make it a practice to do
so. What I am saying is that, by making the choice to stay static, you are
limiting your opportunities.

I think it's also fair to say that NVDA works under some circumstances that
JAWS and WE can't handle and vice versa.

We plan to go over to one of my wife's uncles place for Thanksgiving. It's
always a potluck and my wife is bringing pies -- she is known for her
desserts.

Happy Holidays, all.

Mike

Hey Valerie: As for screen readers, I've done JHAWS since 1995. I've played
around with Window Eyes, but for some reason, can't seem to get it very
well. Can't stand NVDA. Just because it's free, doesn't mean it works for
me. I've just never been real crazy about it. Yeah, I guess some of us
folks don't like change. It's easier to stay with what I've had since dirt.
Don't do change if I don't have to. I don't always upgrade though because
they think I should and they want what little money I have...

As for Thanksgiving, We're going to Bill's Mom and Step-Dad's. Been baking
like a fiend in between laundry loads. Other than that, everyone's just
great around here. Getting everything ready to go. In case I don't get on
again, all you guys have a Blessed Thanksgiving!!!
Believe it or not, Thanksgiving is actually my favorite holiday. I think we
should be thankful year-round. I guess that's why I like it.
Not because of the food. To be perfectly honest, Turkey is too dry for me.
I simply tolerate it because it's there. I'm a ham lady myself.
My dad didn't like turkey either. He'd go out and hunt for a deer and Mom
would cook up some deer meat. Yummmmeeee!!! Nothing like some good old
sausage!!

Christmas day, but if it is, we shall all be outdoors on the back verandah
enjoying lunch. I guess most on the list will have a cool Christmas.
