Seminars at Hadley Presents: Braille Exchange: The Changing Braille Code: How Did We Get to UEB and Why?

        Date: Thursday, March 12, 2015

Time: 10:00 AM CST, 16:00 GMT

There is a lot of buzz surrounding the new Unified English Braille code (UEB). What is it? How did we get here? And why make a change to the existing EBAE code?
Join Seminars at Hadley as Hadley instructors Danette Johnson, Vileen Shah and Jennifer Ottowitz discuss how braille has changed through the years and how UEB came about. Basic changes from the current EBAE braille code that occur in UEB will be discussed along with resources to help you learn more. While not intended to be a comprehensive in-service in UEB, this seminar is meant to answer basic questions and serve as a foundation for further learning.

Dean of Educational Programs and Instruction Doug Anzlovar will moderate this 60-minute seminar. A question and answer session will be included as part of the seminar.

After attending this seminar, participants will be able to:

a.. describe various tactile codes for reading and writing used by people who are blind or visually impaired throughout history
b.. demonstrate understanding of the reasoning for the development of the Unified English Braille code (UEB)
c.. identify basic changes adopted in UEB from the current code (English Braille American Edition)
        Earn Continuing Education Hours
This seminar has been approved by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) for earning Continuing Education (CE) Hour(s).

As always, listening to the seminar remains free of charge. To register for the free live seminar, select the "Registration" link below. If you wish to go on and earn CE Hour(s), you must also register for 1 CE Hour(s) and complete a separate registration form and pay U.S. $25 fee. Once registered, you will receive instruction on how to login and take the online quiz to earn your CE Hour(s).

This seminar is an audio presentation. Space in this seminar is limited. Please only register if you are available to attend so that others are not closed out. Register for Braille Exchange: The Changing Braille Code: How Did We Get to UEB and Why?
