NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF NEBRASKA SENIOR DIVISION Meeting MINUTES
Monday, January 8, 2018
The NFBN Senior Division met by telephone conference Monday, January 8,
2018. President Robert Newman called the meeting to order at 7:01 PM Cst.
Members present were: President Robert Newman, Vice President Barbara Loos,
Secretary Linda Mentink, Board Member Nancy Oltman, Chris Boone, Gina
Finnell, Walt Hively, Geralynn Konruff, Brad Loos, Steve Senteney, and Gerri
Whitlow.
Gerri recited the NFB Pledge. Robert will do it next month.
Linda read the December, 2017, meeting minutes. Barbara moved, Gina
seconded, that the minutes be approved as read. The motion carried.
In Cheryl's absence, Linda read the Treasurer's Report as follows:

Barbara moved, Geralynn seconded, that we accept the report as read. The
motion carried.
Robert mentioned that he talked to Bob Riley. He is thinking about giving up
making canes some time this year. Robert asked if anyone knew of any others
making canes in the country. He gave the information to the Commission, and
he thinks they will be looking to see if that can be handed over to someone
else. Bob would be willing to train whomever.
We discussed our involvement with RTBS programs. Robert will ask at the
state board meeting if others are interested. Our division would be willing
to do one a month.
Robert mentioned potential guest speakers, including someone from Outlook
Nebraska, and Scott Scholz. He said there are currently 12 state senior
divisions. It might be good to have a joint meeting sometime or have someone
from another state senior division or national division be our guest
speaker. He also thought about Nancy's niece, Amy Mason.
Chris mentioned that the Parents' Rights Bill has been reintroduced for the
second year of this legislature. She is now our state Legislative
Chairperson.
Robert talked about the Amazon Echo as possibly a handy thing for seniors to
use to make a phone call. He will see if he can get someone to talk to us
about technology, maybe Amy Mason.
Nancy mentioned that the At Large meeting is this coming Saturday at 1:00.
BRAGS and DRAGS. Barbara said that Roku is still an adventure.
Gina said that her TV went out, so she had to buy a new one and a new cable,
and then exchange the box. Then her phone went out for two days. Now her
freezer is on the fritz, and the ice maker on her refrigerator went out.
Barbara moved, Gerri seconded, that we adjourn. The meeting adjourned at
8:22 PM CST.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Mentink, Secretary
