NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND OF NEBRASKA SENIOR DIVISION MEETING
Monday, May 13, 2019
The NFBN Senior Division met by telephone conference on Monday, May 13,
2019. President Robert Newman called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM CDST.
Members present were: President Robert Newman, Vice President Barbara Loos,
Secretary Linda Mentink, Treasurer Cheryl Livingston, Board Member Nancy
Oltman, Dorothy Babel, Gina Finnell, Geralyn Konruff, Brad Loos, Steve
Senteney, and Jerry Whitlow. Guests present were: Carol Braithwaite from
Alabama, David Andrews from Minnesota, Sarah Edwards from Maryland, and
Della Johnston from Nebraska.
Carol recited the NFB pledge. Chris will recite it next month.
David Andrews was our guest speaker. He shared the history of NFBNET,
beginning in 1991, and went into detail about what he does as the NFBNET
list owner. He answered some questions we had. When asked for any advice, he
recommended that when responding to an email that has a long existing
thread, take the few seconds to delete all but the message that you are
reacting to; these long messages end up taking too much room on the NFB
servers. Also, when responding, you do not need to "respond to All"; just
press control R, for reply.
Robert asked Gina to share some news about a member. Member, Michael Jones
passed away unexpectedly on April 7th.
Linda read the April 2019 Secretary's Report. Cheryl corrected Nancy
Flearl's title. The report will be corrected, and become a part of the
record of the organization.
Before Cheryl read the May Treasurer's report, she explained the $105 check
that we had a question about last month. She read the May Treasurer's Report
as follows:
Treasurer's Report-Senior Division
May 13, 2019
Beginning Balance April 8, 2019 $1320.44
Expenses
PAC plan for May $ 15.00
Total Expenses $ 15 .00
Deposits
None
Ending Balance May 13, 2019 $1305.44
Respectfully submitted,
Cheryl Livingston, Treasurer
The April and May reports will be made a part of the financial record of the
organization.
Those who attended the Older Blind Conference in Kearney shared their
thoughts.
LEGISLATIVE Update. Barbara mentioned the bills that are in process, and
that there are no updates.
BRAGS AND DRAGS. Robert's granddaughter's name is Francine Mary Mellon.
Linda's Apex only cost $107 for the repair; $70 of that was labor.
We will not meet in July because of the NFB Convention. Our next meeting
will be June 10.
Cheryl moved, Linda seconded that we adjourn, which we did at 8:42 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Mentink, Secretary
Respectfully yours,
Robert Leslie Newman
NFBN Senior Division, President
