[nfb-talk] Future NFB Conventions

Actually many of our convention cities have a goodly number of tourest
attractions. People still come for the convention which is, of course, the
point.

I think our convention brings value to any city where we choose to hold it.
It would be great to go anywhere, but the restrictions discussed already
here prevent it.

For my part, although I would love to go to Chicago, Denver, San Francisco,
Los Angeles, or Honolulu I will travel to wherever the convention is because
that is where the important work is being accomplished.

I am perplexed as to why we're engaging this gentleman in any
conversation, like he's serious or interested in the welfare of
the NFB and the mission of our community. And incidentally, if
we ever do go to a destination city with a lot of tourist
attractions, and if we determine that these external recreational
events are keeping people from involvement in the work of our
conference and movement, I'd urge that we abandon that city. The
work of this organization is important. If tending to the issue
of civil rights for blind people doesn't compare to "hanging out
with friends for a fireworks display," people interested in these
traditional summer fun activities should definitely do that.
Those so inclined to play in July aren't likely going to want to
contribute to the critical work of our organization and
convention. These conversations about convention location
rationale do seem to go on to excess. Either come and contribute
to the important work we have to do or don't. And in the rare
instance where you have something meaningful to offer about
identifying alternatives for conventions, forward your
constructive ideas to President Maurer for his consideration and
potential action. This would be much more beneficial than
stirring up negativity, particularly when it comes mostly from
those who choose not to participate under any circumstance.
