I don’t know the answer two how many truly academic schools for the blind exist in America today. The National Federation of the blind has played an important role in the success of the Washington School.

i wish I would've had that sort of school in Pittsburgh. our "school for the blind" became null of academics in the mid 70's before my time. While I received preschool training at the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children i was fully mainstreamed for all 12 years of grade schooling with a traveling vision itinerant who would go to two other districts around my area. I was the only blind student in both HS and my college graduation classes. How many true academic blind schools still exist arround the US? i'm just curious to know.

It is definitely truly a real school for the blind. All teachers are required to be braille certified. They have a viable program that prepares students for college, or just life. They have a post-high school program that helps students transition into college.

is that school still a true "school for the blind" meaning they teach academics and braille to children who are college and career bound? Or is it blind and multi handycaped.
