Hello everyone,

I would like to pass on this exciting news! We met with Congresswoman Kirkpatrick from District 2 (Tucson) and her staff last Thursday. She stated that she would support all of our initiatives. Today, I got word from her senior legislative assistant that Congresswoman Kirkpatrick has officially cosponsored the following bills:

  * HR 431 - Access Technology Affordability Act
  * HR 4853 - Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act
  * HR 2373 - Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act

As you all know, the Twenty-First Century Websites and Applications Accessibility Act does not currently have a sponsor and therefore does not have a bill number. Congresswoman Kirkpatrick would've sponsored the bill however this is her last term in office and her team did not think it would be advisable for her to sponsor a bill that she won't be around to defend if it doesn't get passed this year. However, she will also cosponsor this bill if it gets a primary sponsor while she is still in office.

I have thanked the congresswoman and her team on behalf of the National Federation of the Blind of Arizona. If you would like to personally thank her, you can send an email to her chief of staff, Abigail O'Brien Abigail.obrien at mail.house.gov<mailto:Abigail.obrien at mail.house.gov> and her Senior Legislative Assistant, Ben Owens Ben.Owens at mail.house.gov<mailto:Ben.Owens at mail.house.gov>.

All the best,

Joanne Gabias, M.A., NOMCT, NCUEB, NCRTB
