Since I'm an active member of the NFB Senior Division, I shall write about
its meeting. I hope all of you live long enough to join!

As usual the meeting began with our auction, our major fund-raiser.

We set all the items along a long table so folks can see them and make a
bid. Those behind the table write the bidders' name and money amont with the
slate and stylus. This year we had items such as: a lovely sweat shirt from
Dr. Maurer, a variety of home-made cookies; candy; an afghan; jdwelry; bath
items.you get the picture. We took in over seven-hundred dollars. You might
come by next year and bid; we do not check your age at the door; we are only
interested in your money!

We do have a business meeting and speakers. Ruth Sager told of the seminar
she had had the Saturday before. She taught newly blind seniors how to use a
white cane, prepare food for a meal, how to write and read a little Braille
and how to regain the ability to function as they did before blindness. Ruth
teaches at BISM in Baltimore, MD if you would like more about her work.

We heard more about Newsline and the latest at the LA Center for the blind.
The center has an RV outfitted like a house so seniors losing vision can
step inside and learn to function as an older blind person. This RV will
travel to small towns in the state and assist with blindness education. This
sounds like a great idea for it is hard for many older persons to travel to
the LA Center.

There were other agenda items, but you get the idea that we are not sitting
in our chairs letting life pass us by!

Before I forget, I want to mention Dr. V. I have listened and read his words
with great interest. His wife and he are the outcome of our work in NFB.

My parents knew nothing positive about blindness so you know what happened
to me.

Dr. B. and his wife know the truth about blindness so their children are
very, very lucky. They are getting a fine education and they are learning
good social skills as well..the next time the family goes surfing do not
forget to invite me!

Pat Munson.Dear Reader, Sorry I am off to my cabin so do not have time to
make corrections. You do it for me!
