  Thought the following announcement would be of interest.
  ChuckSEEKING PERSONS INTERESTED IN SERVING ON THE 
  STATE COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES
  The State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) is a State agency mandated to advocate, promote and implement policies and practices that achieve self-determination, independence, productivity and inclusion in all aspects of community life for Californians with developmental disabilities and their families. The Council is composed of 31 members, appointed by the Governor, representing self-advocates, family members, state departments, area boards, and others. Currently the Council is seeking interested persons to apply for appointments in the following classifications:
  Persons with developmental disabilities (self-advocate) (2 currently open). A person with developmental disabilities is someone who has a severe, chronic disability that is attributable to a mental or physical impairment or combination of mental and physical impairments; manifested before the individual attains age 22; is likely to continue indefinitely; results in substantial functional limitations in 3 or more of the following areas of major life activity, self-care, receptive and expressive language, learning, mobility, self-direction, capacity for independent living, economic self-sufficiency and reflects the individual's need for a combination and sequence of special, interdisciplinary, or generic services, individualized supports, or other forms of assistance that are of lifelong or extended duration and are individually planned and coordinated.
  A representative from a nongovernmental agency or group concerned with the provision of services to persons with developmental disabilities (1 coming open in October 2011)
  Persons appointed to membership on the Council shall have demonstrated interest and leadership in human service activities, including interest in Californians who have developmental disabilities, their families, services, and supports. Council members may serve a total of 6 years. The Council meets 6 times per year and each member is also expected to serve on a Council committee. Each member receives one hundred dollars ($100) per day for each full day of work performed directly related to approved Council business, not to exceed 50 days in any fiscal year, and is reimbursed for any actual and necessary expenses incurred in connection with the performance of their approved duties.
