hello. I watched the audition as aired on American Idol of Garrett
Miles' audition. The judges, Jennifer Lopez, Harry Conig Jr and Keith
Urban were very gracious toward Miles and weren't patronizing at all. The
only question they asked him which I think could have been
interpreted as slightly patronizing was whether he felt comfortable on
stage. Given the environment, however, that's not an unreasonable question
to ask any of the would-be contestants.
I watched this segment with my girlfriend who pointed out that his dad
basically pushes him from place to place and there was no evidence of a
cane or other travel aid in sight. I think that will be a problem as the
competition progresses, but it's worth pointing out here that our members
who have met Stevie wonder or Ray Charles will tell you that they also have
very poor travel skills.
No question that Mr. Miles has singing talent. Does he have enough to
go as far as Scott Mcintyre did? I doubt it. However, I do think we'll
see him at least one more time on American Idol this year.
-thanks
