Hello fellow Californians,

Being both blind and hard of hearing presents a set of
unique challenges, but it, as with blindness by itself, does not hold us
back from living the life we want. There are techniques we can use to access
information which the combination of blindness and hearing loss makes it
more challenging to access. Through support and networking we can learn
these techniques from each other, and through our advocacy we can educate
others about them.

I would like to schedule a conference call to discuss the
possibility of forming a deafblind group in California. I would like to
schedule it for this Sunday, July 19 at 7 PM. This will be an informal
network of affiliate members who share the common challenge of being blind
and hard of hearing. If you are interested in being a part of this group,
please reply or contact me offlist.

Here's to living the life we want!

Angela Fowler

Hi,
What are the criteria for being considered hard of hearing? If one is blind
and has a hearing loss in one ear, are they eligible for the deaf/blind
group?
Thanks

Lauren, absolutely! If your hearing loss effects your ability to access
information, you're hard of hearing. If you are fully hearing but want to
join and support, welcome aboard! If you just want information, come on
down!

Hello All:

I trust that everyone survived the most fabulous national convention ever.
We certainly made our presence known in Orlando at the 75th convention of
the National Federation of the Blind.

I am including in this message the link for the "You tube" video of the
Ginnis World Record breaking umbrella mosaic. It was a blast. A little hot
but awsome to have participated with 2,480 of my closest friends.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeMp9TjbHXY

We have returned to California with a renewed enthusiasm for the work that
we do to improve the lives of blind people.

Join us in October for the California convention. It will be held on October
30, 31 and November 1, 2015 at the Doubletree Hotel in Newark. Keep watching
this list for registration information and highlights. I can't wait.

Thank you to all those people who helped make it a success. Let's try to do
that again in October.

Best-

Mary

Hi,
I have one ear with perfect hearing, however, the other one makes it
difficult for me to cross streets, to hear where someone is located (I can
hear them but not know direction) and at work I turn up that side of my
headset to hear jaws better. So I am kind of in the middle.

A long time ago, our school superintendent placed a beeping ball somewhere
and had me find it. It took me a while. I could hear it beeping okay but it
took me a while to find it underneath a love seat kind of thing. I can hear
middle tones fine but not high and low tones in that ear. Quite a history of
infections and one surgery. Sometimes if that ear is infected or there is
fluid in the ear, I will get dizzy and my hearing will go down further.
Thanks
That was probably TMI. Sorry about that.

Lauren, absolutely! If your hearing loss effects your ability to access
information, you're hard of hearing. If you are fully hearing but want to
join and support, welcome aboard! If you just want information, come on
down!

Hi,
What are the criteria for being considered hard of hearing? If one is blind
and has a hearing loss in one ear, are they eligible for the deaf/blind
group?
Thanks

Hi all,

I downloaded the Gmail phone app for the iPhone. When I tried to use it I
discovered it is full of screenshots. Does anyone know if there is a way to
change the features? Is there an accessible version of this particular
mobile app.

Thanks,

Hello, I have been using the Gmail app for a while and I haven't had any
issue. Is the app that you thought loaded made by Google?
I believe that's the one I have.
I think after you get your account set up, it should be easy to use.

Hi,

Is there a pamphlet in braille that is available that lists all of the UEB
changes to the braille code? There were some in our braille version of the
convention agenda, but a list would be helpful. I'm not sure I like it
though. Some contraction usage looks wrong to me and divides words/syllables
oddly. Oh well, I guess it is better for computer braille.

Thanks

Lauren

Yeah the only pharmacies I'm aware of that work with Envision are CVS
and Walgreens.

that's what I found out this morning. I switched pharmacies because I didn't

like the way Sarah & I were treated @ the CVS up here in Victorville. also,
the rightaid is directly across the street from where I'm currently living.
The Walmart in victorville is quite a ways away.

What I don't dig is the way they do numbers like for instance 55.20+4090
the plus symbol looks like dot 5 followed by the dots 2 3 5 and the
numbers have a number sign following each pair of numbers. I don't like
it either but it is what it is going to be unfortunately and I have to
be up on it when it comes to this if I need to request stuff in braille
for future reference I think that the BANA web site might have resources
brailleauthority.org I believe is the site. Also, I heard somewhere that
NBP National Braille Press has hard copy of this code but hey, I could
be wrong.

good Evening all:

About a week ago, I received a popup on my computer to update my Real Playr.
I did so, however, I keep getting a popup that says ?You?re almost there.
Please click to complete your instlation.? However, there is no place for me
to click. The popup goes away and comes up later.

NOTE: I?m using JAWS 16 WITH Windows 8.1.

If anyone can help me on this matter, I would appreciate it very much as I?m
getting tired of having that popup coming up.

Just to let youknow I will receive the audible scan label device in the
mail.

I had to call CVS Customer relations
and the lady transferred me to someone that handles the website orders.I
will have my meds mailed to me as well.

May not make much difference, but thought I share.
