*Thank you for attending the 2022 NorCal Regional Braille Challenge!*
We want to thank all of the students, families, teachers and community
members for attending the 2022 NorCal Regional Braille Challenge! Without
your attendance and enthusiasm, this event would not have been possible
without each and every one of you. A huge shout out to our participants for
dedicating the day to showing off their braille skills and celebrating
braille literacy with us!
From the opening ceremony to the competition and motivational guest
speakers, the smiles, tears (of joy), and reunions - this is definitely one
that we will all remember for years to come. It was great to come together
again after so much time spent apart.
The future is bright for our NorCal regional students and we are grateful
to be apart of their journey. It is so special that our partner
organizations join together for this special day and we look forward to
supporting LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in San Francisco
next year!
If any teachers want our extra tests for practice, they will be available
after April 1st at our San Jose office. We can ship them using free mail
for the blind. E-mail ajine at vistacenter.org by the end of April.

*Youth of Tomorrow: A Day in the Life of A Product Specialist*
This month, young adults will meet Rachel Feinberg, a West Region Blindness
Product Specialist at Humanware. She conducts trainings, workshops, and
widespread support for all Braille products. She works with students,
teachers, and other individuals to help them get the most out of their
Braille devices.
Rachel is extremely enthusiastic about Braille and encourages reading in
everyday life. She had the exciting opportunity to be a finalist in the
National Braille Challenge in Los Angeles in 2004 and 2006. It is safe to
say that Braille’s been with her for a while and will continue to stick
around for the future.
When not working, Rachel enjoys various hobbies and interests that
encompass a wide range of items. From audio recording, to playing bass
guitar, music is on the top ten list of things she enjoys. You can also
find her reading all the mysteries and thrillers she can get her hands on
and cooking new things. If it is chocolate, she is interested!
Come join a lively discussion to learn about Rachel's career path and life
journey!

*Student Voices Making Choices*
Calling all youth and young adults ages 14-24! Student Voices Making
Choices is a student mentoring group where everyone uses the "reverse
mentoring" approach and learns from each other to foster growth and learn
life skills that can be used in their everyday lives. Last year, a cohort
of students from all over California came together to present a fundraiser
and Zoom workshop on Assistive Technology. We raised a little over $300!
You must be able to commit a few hours a week during the summer to meet
regularly with your peers to discuss what your project will be this year.
It will be moderated by Amy Jine, our transition program specialist to help
guide everyone to success, offer words of wisdom, cheerleading and support!
What will you come up with together? Maybe you’ve always wanted to plan an
event? Or create your own documentary? Create your on accessible escape
room? The possibilities are endless.
We will meet weekly based on your schedule starting in May and you will
present your idea as a team to the audience of your choosing in early
September. This program is designed to teach real world skills in a fun,
engaging and enriching environment. If you’re open to learning and making
new friends this program is for you.
If you’re interested, please send an e-mail to Amy Jine
ajine at vistacenter.org by May 1st, 2022.
