Hello Maria:

I had a career in computer programming for over twenty-five years. I have used languages as diverse as Fortran, C and Java. Since I am totally blind, I used both a braille embosser and a braille display to do my work. If you want to do web based applications, learning HTML5, CSS and JavaScript would be a good start. Bookshare has lots of books on these subjects.

Regards,

Robert

Subject: [nfbcs] New member seeking career info

Hello all,
My name is Maria Carrera and I am excited to have recently found this list. I’m a software developer specializing in C# web development. I was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at 16 and had to adapt to using screen readers, magnifiers and the like in the early 2000’s. Life has also blessed me with my husband and three children to raise.

I’ve had a fulfilling career thus far, and am looking to take the next step and find more purposeful work. I’m curious to know if anyone would be interested in emailing or talking with me about working as a blind individual in this industry.

Thank you,
Maria
