[NFBCS] Audio Cutting Out

Hi Leslie,

Your situation sounds similar to mine.  Changing the JAWS sound card to
something other than default has no effect on a computer with only one
sound card.  I think the JAWS avoid sound cutoff feature is an attempt
to work around the issue.  JAWS sends silence to the audio device which
is still an audio stream so some speakers see it as audio still playing
so they don't turn off. However, I have Klipsch ProMedia 2.0 speakers
and a pair of Mackie HR824 and both of these turn off because they
detect based on loudness of the audio. I suspect that is the case with
all wired speakers since they receive analog signal and not data.   My
Mackie speakers have a hardware switch to disable the standby, but the
Klipsch speakers do not, so for those I have to wake them up with JAWS
key + F12 or similar.  You might try a cheap pair of wired headphones
(1/8" or 1/4", not USB) if they work then you'll know it's your speakers.

Hope this helps,

Brian
