Tracy,

How were you accessing your mail before? If you were using another email client and if it still works, that would indicate that there is a way around this.

I hope you didn’t by an old version of Outlook, like 2012. There are security protocols that have changed since then. If it is 2016, make sure you get all possible updates installed.

If it is a current version, I doubt that there is anything wrong with the Outlook installation. However, if Outlook automatically got the settings for the server, it is possible something went wrong. The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk might be able to help in that they might be able to change a setting to get past this. They might also be able to help to be sure you receive any updates that you may not have installed if you bought a version that you did not install online. There number is 800-936-5900, and I believe they can connect remotely without the Be My Eyes app.

You could also try configuring the mail server manually using whatever your provider says are the settings that should manually be used. Looking at the settings used by your other email client, if there is one, would also be helpful. Obviously, if you did your mail through a web interface, that won’t help.

I did have an case where I had to set up the email connection manually because Outlook didn’t get it right when I did it automatically. Although Outlook could have been at fault, it also could be that the settings provided automatically by the provider were not right in my case.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

I did contact my provider, and I thought I sent their tech all the info he needed, but he said he couldn’t help me.

actually, it seems like she needs to contact whoever provides her email. Either she doesn’t have the correct settings or her provider has an expired SSL certificate.

I bought a copy of Office, including Outlook. Everything is working fine, except every time I open my mail I get 2 of the same error and have to hit alt-y to continue.
The message is:
The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that cannot be verified.
The target principal name is incorrect.

I tried asking my provider’s tech support, but they weren’t helpful. The tech said my copy of Outlook might not be installed properly, but it’s working fine.
I tried Google, but got instructions I don’t understand at all and seem to be for a provider and not a user.
I tried installing the certificate, following the prompts, but that didn’t work, either.
I could just keep hitting alt-y twice when I open my mail, but it also seems to be the thing that makes Jaws not automatically read the title and such as I arrow down through my list of messages, and that is rather annoying. I have to make Jaws manually read each line.

Does anyone know how I can make this problem go away?
Thanks.
Tracy
