¡Buenos días a todos y feliz días de fiesta!

Este es un pequeño repaso de lo que hemos estado haciendo durante todo el año, y la actualización para el año 2012.
Hoy es 26 de diciembre del 2011, a sólo 6 días más del 2012, e aquí las cosas en las que estamos trabajando como cambios para el 2012.

Si no han estado leyendo el boletín electrónico en los últimos meses, se están perdiendo un montón de información interesante.

El 2011 nos ha encontrado, gracias a Dios, sanos, y el negocio estaba comenzando a marchar un poco.

Nelson sigue en el mismo trabajo, y Dina se encuentra todavía en la universidad, y se ha mudado a vivir conmigo y con Nelson durante el verano, no la vemos mucho, ya que está trabajando durante el día para pagar la universidad, y va a la universidad por la noche, o a casa de unos amigos, a algún lugar, pero ella está bien.

Elegí hacer una recaudación de fondos para la Fundación Juvenil de Investigación Sobre la Diabetes, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, ya que he perdido mi vista y estuve en diálisis desde hace tanto tiempo por esta terrible enfermedad. Por desgracia, sólo tengo tres camarotes reservados, por lo que, la recaudación de fondos no va a recibir ningún dinero, para que una recaudación de fondos funcione, debe tener 8 camarotes o más de las líneas de cruceros.

Estamos trabajando en otro para octubre del 2012, y para julio del 2013, lea nuestro sitio web para obtener más información. En junio, Nelson y yo nos unimos a Lions International, uniéndonos al Capítulo local de Central Islip.


Saltamos a julio del 2012, asistí a la Convención Nacional de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos en Orlando, Florída. Nelson no asistió, pero Maxx (mi perro guía y yo, nosotros mismos fuímos), compartímos una habitación con una querida amiga mía de la Federación de Nueva York. En la actualidad, sigo siendo la Tesorera del Capítulo de Greater Long Island. En la reunión de la División de Viajes y Turismo, fuí elegida presidente de la división, una orgullosa división de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos. Fui animada a postularme, por todas las actividades de abogacía que hago por las personas ciegas y con discapacidad, o por lo menos intento hacerlo. No es un grupo activo, pero desde que fuí elegida, estámos trabajando arduamente para cambiar esto.

Nelson y yo hicimos algunas caminatas este año. La primera fué para recaudar fondos para el evento de conocer a los ciegos. ¡Hemos estado haciendo esto desde hace 3 años ahora!

Si desea caminar con nosotros para recaudar dinero para el próximo año, normalmente lo hacemos, el fín de semana del Día del Trabajo, pero hemos decidido hacer una caminata diferente en el 2012. Así que permanezcan atentos. Hemos recaudado alrededor de $2.000.00, todo el dinero va para que nos ayuden a ayudar a los ciegos, si alguien necesita ayuda con servicios o equipos. También se utiliza para enviar a nuestros miembros a Albany o Washington, D.C. cuando el estado o la nacional van, para que podamos hablar con los legisladores acerca de hacer cambios para ayudar a aquellos que son ciegos, hacemos nuestro propio cabildeo, no contratamos a otros que lo hagan por nosotros. El dinero también va a ayudar a los miembros a asistir a las convenciones estatales o nacionales.

Y más, mucho más....

En octubre , Hicimos tres caminatas por la Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Old Westbury, Islip and Riverhead en Long Island), éramos vendedores, ya que yo estaba tratando de conseguir que los demás supieran acerca de los efectos de la Diabetes, además de dar a conocer la recaudación de fondos del crucero que estábamos haciendo. Nelson, Maxx y yo, caminamos en la caminata de Islip.

También en octubre, hice una excursión en barco con los ciegos, con la línea de cruceros, Norwegian Cruise Lines que han sido de gran ayuda, y un proveedor ideal para la agencia de viajes, Echevarria Travel, desde que comenzamos nuestro negocio. Hicimos esto con fines educativos, para personas que nunca han navegado en el Norwegian Gem, y también fué una experiencia educativa para la línea de cruceros. Vamos a hacer cada vez más de estos viajes de buques con ellos en los siguientes años. Hay allí, personas estupendas como Cathy Vázquez, Directora del Programa de Acceso del Departamento, y Andrew Stuart, Vicepresidente Ejecutivo de Ventas Globales y Servicios de Pasajeros, y el resto del personal de esta estupenda empresa.

Tuvimos alrededor de 20 personas con nosotros, la mayoría miembros de la Federación, pero había puesto un correo electrónico a todos los que estaban interesados en venir a hacerlo.

Hemos estado viajando en noviembre y diciembre. Nelson y yo hicimos un viaje de graduación con otros agentes de viajes en la línea de cruceros, Norwegian Cruise Lines, nos fuímos en el Norwegian Gem fuera de New York City, todas las líneas de cruceros salen del área tri-estatal ahora, del Norwegian, de hecho, en el 2013 , el más reciente, "Breakaway", el barco más grande para navegar fuera de Nueva York durante todo el año, va a hacer travesías semanales de ida y vuelta a las Bermudas. De hecho, tengo espacio en el grupo saliendo el 28 de julio del 2013, ¡¡que se puede comprar ahora!! También es nuestro crucero anual de recaudación de fondos para la diabetes juvenil, así que, venga y únase a nosotros. Puede depositar cierta cantidad, y pagarla mensualmente.

Salimos de Nueva York a Orlando y a Las Bahamas. Fué un tiempo increíble, teníamos clases de las líneas de cruceros, y teníamos actividades especiales, que fué un tiempo maravilloso. Nos alojamos en el barco durante nuestra estadía en Orlando, la próxima vez vamos a hacer algo, sólo deseaba probar el balneario mientras estábamos en el puerto. También fuímos a Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas, las aguas fueron difíciles, por lo que, la licitación podría superar las altas olas para llegar a la nave, era un hermoso día soleado, pero el oleaje era de 8-10 hpies, así que no había manera de conseguir que esos botes llegaran a la nave. Por favor, recuerden que cuando están navegando, que es una experiencia estupenda, el clima puede cambiar, al igual que cualquier lugar puede ser hermoso y soleado y cálido, pero si las olas son altas no podría llegar al puerto que desee, es decir, mediante licitación, si el barco está portando como en las Bahamas, es una historia diferente. Nunca he estado en las Bahamas. Fué todo eso, y papas fritas, como dicen, nos pasamos el día en la laguna en el Atlantis Resort and Casino, nadamos con los peces tropicales, y nos habíamos acostado en las hamacas, tomamos una bebida tropical agradable, y nos sentíamos como reyes. Después de eso, dimos una vuelta a la localidad, tomamos fotos y videos que están disponibles para todos en youtube y facebook.

Así que, ahora tengo mi doctorado en el mar, PhD at sea, con las líneas de cruceros, Norwegian Cruise Lines. También estudié a Irlanda, Egipto, México, Hawaii, España e Israel; y, actualmente, estoy trabajando sobre Italia, Francia y China, donde enviamos a muchos clientes allí este verano y lo pasaron muy bien. Una familia de tres que eran ciegos, y una pareja en la que ella era ciega y él no, y fueron algunas otras personas que no tenían ninguna discapacidad. Todos lo pasaron genial.

Siempre estamos actualizando el conocimiento de donde es que la gente desea viajar, y que también, se centrará este año en Puerto Rico.

Hemos llegado al final del año.

Recientemente, Dina (mi hija y yo fuimos a Walt Disney World), fuímos desde el último día de noviembre hasta principios de diciembre, que es el precio más bajo del año a veces, he estado planeando este viaje por un tiempo, casi un año.

Tomé un montón de fotos y videos de nuestro viaje, para negocios y placer también.

Good morning all and happy holidays!

This is a little review of what we have been doing throughout the year, and update for 2012.
It is December 26, 2011 only 6 more days until 2012, things we are working on as changes for 2012.

If you have not been reading the e-newsletter over the past few months, you are missing out on a lot of fascinating information.

2011 has found us thank god healthy and the business was starting to pick up a little bit. 

Nelson still at the same job, and Dina is still in college and has moved in with me and Nelson during the summer, don't get to see to much of her since, she is working during the day to pay for college and going to school at night, or at friends house, somewhere but she is okay.  

I elected to do a Fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, since I have lost my vision and was on dialysis for so long from this terrible disease. Unfortunately, I have only 3 staterooms booked, and so the fundraiser will not be receiving any money, for a fundraiser to work, you must have 8 staterooms or more from the cruise lines.

We are working on another one for October 2012 and for July 2013, read our website for more information.  Some changes to that as well, since there is so much information to put up on the website, only fundraisers, groups trips, etc will be posted. All other information such as pictures, videos, and updates, will be on http://www.echevarriatravel.wordpress.com, it is an accessible blog for all, or you can go to the last tab on my website, it lists everything there as well.  We will also be trying video blogging.   So stayed tuned for that.

In June, Nelson and I joined Lions International, joining the local Central Islip Chapter.


We jump to July 2012, I attended the National Convention of the National Federation of the Blind in Orlando, Fl.  Nelson did not attend, but Maxx (my guide dog and I went ourselves), we roomed with a dear friend my the NFB of NY.  Currently, I am still the Treasurer of the Greater Long Island Chapter.  At the Travel and Tourism Division meeting I was elected President of the Division, a proud division of the National Federation of the Blind. I was encourage to run, because of all the advocacy work that I do for the blind and disabled, or at least try to.  It is not a active group, but since being elected we are hard at work to change this. 

Nelson and I did a few walks this year.  The first one was for a fundraiser and meet the blind event. We have been doing this for 3 years now!  The Greater Long Island Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind walk, if you want to walk with us and to raise money for next year, we do it normally Labor Day weekend but have decided to do it a different one in 2012.  So stayed tuned.  We raised around $2,000.00, all the money goes to help us to help the blind, should someone need assistance with services, or equipment. We also use it to send our members to either Albany or Washington, D.C. when the state or national goes so we can speak to the law makers about making changes to help those that are blind, we do our own lobbying, we do not hire others to do it for us.  The money also goes to assist members to attend either the state or national conventions.

Plus so much more....

October - We did 3 walks for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Old Westbury, Islip and Riverhead Long Island), we were vendors since I was trying to get others to know about the affects of Diabetes, plus to let people know about the cruise fundraiser we were doing. Nelson, Maxx and myself walked in the Islip walk.

Also in October, I did a ship tour with the blind, Norwegian Cruise Lines as been a big help and great supplier for Echevarria Travel, since we started our business.  We did this for educational purposes, to bring people who have never cruised on the Norwegian Gem, also it was an educational experience for the cruise line as well.  We will be doing more and more of these ship tours with them over the years.  Great People there, such as Cathy Vazquez - Manager of the Access Department and  Andrew Stuart -  Executive Vice President Global Sales and Passenger Services, and the rest of the staff of this great company.

We had about 20 people with us, mostly NFB members but I did put out an e-mail to all those who were interested in coming to do so.

We have been traveling in November through December.  Nelson and I did a graduation cruise with other travel agents on Norwegian Cruise Lines, we went on the Norwegian Gem out of NY City, all of the cruise lines go out of the tri-state area now, from Norwegian - in fact, in 2013, the newest one "Breakaway", the largest ship to sail out of NY year round, will be doing round trip sailings weekly to Bermuda.  In fact, I have group space on the July 28, 2013 sailing, which you can book now!! It is also our yearly fundraiser cruise for Juvenile Diabetes, so come and join us.  Put a deposit down, and pay it off monthly.

We sailed from New York to Orlando and the Bahamas.  It was an awesome time, we had classes from the cruise lines, and had special activities, what a wonderful time.  We stayed on the ship during Orlando, next time we are going to do something, just wanted to try out the spa while we were in port.  We also went to Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas, the waters were rough so the tenders could get over the high waves to come to the ship, it was a beautiful sunny day, but the waves were 8-10 foot swells, so there was no way to get those boats to the ship.  Please remember when you are sailing, which is a great experience, that weather may change, like any place might be beautiful and sunny and warm, but if the waves are high you might not get to the port you want, meaning by tender, if the ship is porting like in the Bahamas it is a different story.  Never been to the Bahamas it was all that and potatoe chips like they say, we spent the day at the Lagoon at the Atlantis Resort and Casino, we swam with the tropical fish, and laid in the hammocks, had a nice tropical drink, and felt like kings.  After that we walked around the resort took pictures and videos which are available to all on youtube and facebook.

So now I have my PhD at sea with Norwegian Cruise Lines. I also studied Ireland, Egypt, Mexico, Hawaii, Spain, and Israel; and I am currently working on Italy, France and China, we sent many clients there this summer and had a great time. A family all three were blind, and a couple that she was blind and he wasn't and a few other people who had no disabilities went. All had great time.

Always updating our knowledge of where people want to travel to, I will also be focusing this year on Puerto Rico.

We come to the end of the year.  

Recently, Dina (my daughter and I went to Walt Disney World), we went the last day of November through the beginning of December lowest price of the year sometimes, been planning this trip for awhile almost a year.

Took lots of pictures and videos of our trip as well for business and pleasure.
