STEM, Serán Ofrecidas a Estudiantes Ciegos en la Convención 2017 de la 
Federación

¿Eres un estudiante ciego interesado en el estudio de la ciencia, la 
ingeniería o

las matemáticas? ¿Te sientes intimidado por la perspectiva de hacer el 
trabajo de laboratorio en una

clase de química o producir resultados legibles visualmente en una clase 
de matemáticas? Tal vez

eres un profesional en un campo técnico que encuentra difícil

producir gráficos y diagramas para colegas videntes? Si es así, entonces

ven a la Convención de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos y planea

llegar a tiempo para el día del seminario, el 10 de julio de 2017. Ese 
día, la División en Ciencias de computación,

y la División de estudiantes en Ciencias e Ingeniería de la Federación 
organizarán

el taller tutorial de Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas,

de todo el mundo para ayudar a estudiantes ciegos y profesionales a aprender

a utilizar una variedad de herramientas para que te ayuden a sobresalir 
en tu

campo técnico elegido. Lo mejor de todo, las sesiones de tutoría 
individuales serán ofrecidas a

lo largo de la semana, para aquellos que quieran entrenamiento uno-a-uno 
de los

expertos que están familiarizados con el acceso tecnológico que están 
enseñando,

así como la esfera técnica que está siendo utilizada. Los temas a

tratar para los cuales las tutorías estarán disponibles incluyen:

* acceso a las matemáticas directamente en materiales electrónicos o 
conversión a Braille,

* la escritura de matemáticas en formatos accesibles a los videntes,

* la lectura de gráficos en tablas y diagramas, en las Ciencias, 
Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas, STEM, y la creación de gráficos 
sencillos,

* participación en laboratorios de química, biología, física, e ingeniería.

No hay ningún cargo para asistir al seminario el lunes, o a las

sesiones de tutoría a lo largo de la semana.

El seminario del lunes dará una visión general de las tecnologías que se

enseñan, así como una introducción a los tutores. Se

recomienda que las personas que están interesadas en participar en esta

valiosa oportunidad planeen llegar a la Convención a tiempo para comenzar a

STEM Tutorials for blind students to be offered at the 2017 NFB National
Convention

Are you a blind student interested in studying Science, Engineering or
Math?  Do you feel daunted by the prospect of doing lab work in a chemistry
class or producing visually readable results in a math class?  Perhaps
you're a professional in a technical field who finds it challenging to
produce graphs and charts for sighted colleagues?  If so, then
come to the Convention of the National Federation of the Blind and plan to
arrive in time for Seminar Day, July 10, 2017.  On that day, the NFB
in Computer
Science, the NFB Science & Engineering Division and the Student division will
host the STEM tutorial workshop.  STEM educators and technologists will
come from around the world to help blind students and professionals learn
to use a variety of tools to help them excel in their chosen technical
field.  Best of all, individual tutoring sessions will be offered
throughout the week for those folks who want one-on-one training from
experts who are familiar with the access technology they're teaching, as
well as the technical field it's being used for.  The topics to be
discussed and for which tutoring will be available include:

* access math in electronic materials directly or to convert it to braille,

* write math in formats directly accessible to sighted people,

* read STEM graphs, charts, and diagrams, and create simple graphics,

* Participate in chemistry, biology, physics, and engineering labs.

There is no charge to attend either the seminar on Monday or the tutoring
sessions throughout the week.
The seminar on Monday will give an overview of the technologies to be
taught, as well as an introduction to the tutors themselves.  It is
strongly recommended that folks who are interested in participating in this
invaluable opportunity plan to arrive at the Convention in time to begin
participating in events on the morning of July 10, 2017.
