[Nfbf-l] Newsline Availability

I do not want to have to use a computer just to get information I wish to read to my phone. For example, I am having to go to the UPS store to pick up my mail. I don't want to spend 10-30 minutes downloading content to my computer, and then transfer it to my phone, just in case I'll have time to read it.
YOu can download MP3 file to your iPHone, but they show up as music files. There's no way to change this, and because of this you can't delete those files only. To get rid of them, without a computer, you must delete all music.
YOu can only create MP3 files of newspapers if you use a PC, which I don't. My primary computer is a Mac, and it is not supported by Newsline, unless you want to download the zip files, unzip them, and then copy to a DTB player.
Our society is changing, and we are not as dependent on PCs like we used to be. The PC is just becoming another device.

> Not true Matt, You can download those "DAISY" files to your iPhone and read them, you can use the iPhone as a phone and listen to NFB Newsline, or you can download MP3 files to your phone. You can also use NFB Newsline on the web from your phone, and read articles that way -- so lots of options.

If I'm sitting waiting for a bus, paratransit, etc. I and I want to access newsline, I can't do that with just my iPhone or iPad. I'd have to use my computer, download the zip files, unzip them, and then transfer the stuff to a daisy player. Why should I carry an extra device for just one purpose?

While it is true that many newspapers are seeing a decline in subscribers due to the internet they are evolving with that and beginning to offer both free as well as paid subscriptions to their newspapers on line accessible through computers, smart phones and other devices. This doesn't mean that Newsline is out of date. With funding for Newsline we will continue to get the latest news just like the rest of the world. Newspapers have shown their willingness to provide us with their content and I can see no reason why they would stop. The general public have begun paying for their news content on line in place of paying for home delivery and there many reasons for that. Having it available to them anywhere anytime on just about any device is probably the most attractive thing. Newsline has also evolved by doing just that. It is now offered in many ways including the phone, computer via e mail and as a download for your favorite devices like the Victor Reader Stream, Plextalk etc.

Your personal desires for what you'd like to see are certainly good ones. You mentioned the NHL web site as not being accessible and I certainly hope you have let them know that. I personally have not visited the site as I am not an NHL fan but I can certainly share in your desire to have equal access to whatever site or electronic device it might be out there.

I am very sorry you don't see much value in Newsline but the large majority of us do and we will fight to keep it.
