> As many of you are aware, I’m a huge San Diego Charger fan. I often am asked how I became a SD Charger fan. Well, there are multiple reasons. First and foremost it is my favorite city in the United States. Second, I was embraced by Charger fans and educated about the team during a visit there many years ago. Third, my favorite player has a special education background and spends many, many hours helping individuals with disabilities. So, my love for the Chargers began and I’m hopeful they will become super bowl champions someday. If anyone follows NFL, they know that just recently the Chargers moved from San Diego just a bit north to Carson City/Los Angeles. This actually was disheartening for me. How do I continue to be a fan for a team that is no longer in “my” town? Then I began to see the bigger picture. The fact that life does not stay where we want it to stay and we are constantly facing change. It is often those things we can’t control that can be most challenging.
>
> With the change of my beloved SD Chargers (I will never call them by the other city), I felt it was time for a change in my life as well. The last month I have created a long pro-con list, agonized over change, and finally took the step forward to commit to the change. Therefore, I am announcing my retirement from the Office for the Blind. My 24 years in the field of Vocational Rehabilitation has been one of the most fulfilling and rewarding careers any person could aspire to experience. The countless individuals with the passion for individuals with disabilities that have crossed my path and have now become friends would inspire anyone. The successes and triumphs I have witnessed by individuals with disabilities has kept me motivated and encouraged even during the hardest parts of my career.
>
> My last official day will be April 30, 2017. This allows a smooth transition to occur the next two months and preparations for a new leader to continue moving an amazing agency and staff forward. I can’t thank each of you enough for the gift you bestowed on me. That is the gift of support, motivation, encouragement and friendship. There are many things I will miss but at the top of the list is this agency and what it means to me.
