Dear Friends:
Your help is needed this Friday as we meet with a senior staff member from
Congressman Andy Harris's office regarding HR 3505, our Technology,
Education and Accessibility in College and Higher Education (TEACH) Act.
This bill, as you may know, would require the Department of Education to
issue standards regarding the accessibility of technology used by colleges
and universities while making it illegal for a college to purchase
technology which does not meet these accessibility guidelines. Getting this
bill passed, therefore, is of vital importance to blind college students and
to those who will go to college in the future. Congressman Harris has a
reputation as a champion of quality education; however, he has not yet
cosponsored this bill. We need all supporters of equal education for blind
students, blind and sighted alike, to attend this meeting and show
Congressman Harris that his constituents want him to sign onto the TEACH
Act.
The meeting will take place on Friday morning, July 18th at 10:30 AM. Since
this staff member has agreed to meet us on sight at a location of our
choosing, the meeting will be held at Bare Wood House in Finksburg, MD. The
address of the store is: 2445 Baltimore Blvd Finksburg, MD 21048. It is
imperative that Congressman Harris's constituents attend, as he will be much
more likely to listen to our comments if they are given by those who can
vote for him. Congressman Harris represents Maryland's first Congressional
district, which serves parts of Carroll, Baltimore, Hartford and Cecil
counties on the Western Shore along with much of the Eastern Shore. If you
are unsure if you are in this district, please see this link for a list of
municipalities covered in District 1:
http://harris.house.gov/municipalities. I hope to see a strong showing of
our members and friends at this meeting. This is an important bill and we
need Congressman Harris's support. Please feel free to pass this email along
to anyone who may be interested in supporting us at this meeting. I look
forward to seeing many of you on Friday.
Thank you,
Chris Nusbaum
