Good Morning Eveeryone!!

I like where this is going. Most everyone I;’ve seen so far has mentioned some of the v ery things I’ve had experience with.

However, there is one point I’d like to bring to the table which nobody else has.

Wen I had my hysterectomy in 2004 at Mercy Hospital, Immediately after the ssurgery, I was taken to the eleventh floor—Oncology Wing, till after everything was tested. The charge nurse posted a sign on my room door, and I quote: ‘BLIND PATIENT”.

When my husband made the discovery, he was absolutely mortified!! He mentioned it to me when I woke up. Then, he proceeded to find that nurse and explain to her that she was not to do that and we wanted the sign torn down. She refused. My husband tore the sign down. Then she proceeded to argue with him. I could hear the arguing going on. So, she continued arguing with him. I was very upset. Later, weeks after we had left the hospital, somebody called me from the hospital for my feedback. I mentioned the episode and that I was highly upset by it. My reason being, that when one is in an inner city Hospital, A sign like that on a door would simply advertise me as a target!! When I explained that to the lady who was doing the survey, she was very understanding. Above all and foremost, we do not need signs on our doors as blind patients advertising that we are blind patients. It’s simply advertises that we are targets to anyone who can walk by. We don’t know where these people come from. They can come from anywhere. They can get in through the emergency room and run the whole hospital. Who knows??? I believe that this jeopardizes the safety of any patients in the hospital. Blind or otherwise!!!
