Minutes September 19, 2012

Quorum yes Terri Wilcox, Nick Wilcox, Larry Posont, Dave Robinson and Mary Wurtzel.

Treasurer's Report, Mary Wurtzel.$90,065.25 is in the Affiliate account.

 

Commission for the Blind Board Meeting, September 21. The Board will continue with Agenda items such as concerns over subminimum wages and having a blind vendor run the State Plate. The concern over the State Plan will be discussed. We will watch the legality of the actions of the agency. Edward Rogers was named Bureau of Services for Blind Persons Director yesterday. He has not been a part of any organization of the blind. Zimmer has said he will come to the Convention of the National Federation of the Blind of Michigan and bring Ed Rogers. Zimmer does not intend to change the Business Enterprise Program. He intends to emphasize youth and seniors. The National Federation of the Blind is not going to give much of a honeymoon period for the new Director. The State Plan was changed since authority and spending control were given to the state agency. Parnell Diggs will be our National Representative at the State Convention.

Minutes, National Federation of the Blind of Michigan Board Meeting 

October 6 2012 8:30 P.M.

Quorum, yes Larry Posont, Mike Powell, Terri Wilcox, Mary Wurtzel, Nick Wilcox, Sarah Norwood and Dave Robinson. 

Secretary's Report, Terri Wilcox. Mike Powell, made a motion to accept the Secretary's Report. Nick Wilcox seconded the motion. The July 14 minutes were approved. 

Treasurer's Report, Mary Wurtzel. The current balance before Bridge Walk expenses is $89,967.79. Bridge walk expenses are about $5,000.

Dave Robinson made a motion to accept the treasurer's Report. Terri Wilcox seconded the motion. The treasurer's report was approved. 

 Introduction of participating members

presidents report  Larry Posont. registrations for state convention are coming in very slowly. As of Tuesday only 30 people have registered. The agenda is currently coming together. Ed Rogers cannot come on Saturday. Mike Zimmer will be able to attend on Saturday. Parnell Diggs will be the National representative for state convention. Ken will be hired to drive people to the hotel.

The state convention flyer is not on the web page. This will be fixed.

Dave Robinson made a motion to allocate $1,000 to help people attend convention Mike Powell seconded the motion. the motion was approved.

The members at large chapter will have a fund raiser at state convention Friday evening.

Dave Robinson wants to receive resolutions ahead of time if possible.

The Ann Arbor chapter will be having a gift card raffle.

Over $800 in gift cards has been collected so far.

A plaque has been made up to recognize the 50th anniversary of the Michigan Braille Transcribing Fund.

Ed Rogers is the new director. Larry Posont has asked to have a meeting with him.

Terri Wilcox made a presentation about the NFB and state convention at the training center.

Again this year the state convention information was  not given on the business enterprise program bid line.

Mary Wurtzel made a motion to adjourn at 9:30. Nick Wilcox seconded the motion. The motion passed.
