Research Title: Born-Accessible Approaches in Designing Documents

Being conducted by: Maryland Initiative for Digital Accessibility, University of Maryland

Purpose of the Study

This research study is a collaborative project of Professor Jonathan Lazar, graduate student Abhinav Kannan (both a part of the Maryland Initiative for Digital Accessibility at the University of Maryland, College Park) and Adobe Research.

We are conducting a user evaluation on “born-accessible” approaches in marking up digital content for accessibility – during authoring. This proposed research involves concept testing of new UX prototypes with people, to obtain feedback on digital accessibility features for template-based design. In this research, we invite participants to join in this study if they have experience designing and authoring documents and are interested in making them accessible.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

The participants will be invited to a Zoom session for concept testing that will last about 2 hours. The features will be described in detail, and they will be asked to provide feedback (through the "think aloud" protocol) on the ease of use and effectiveness. Participants will only need to give verbal feedback and fill a post-study survey -- they do not need to create or upload any materials in this process.

Proposed Participant Compensation

Yes, $50 Tango gift card will be sent digitally to participants.
