The below research participant solicitation is being provided for informational purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our research mission.

Research Title: Access Practices in Shared Picture-Book Reading In Mixed-ability Contexts

Being conducted by: University of California, Irvine

Purpose of the Study

As part of the National Science Foundation I-Corps program, we are conducting short interviews to understand how blind and low-vision adults find, evaluate, and adopt technologies for shared picture book reading with children. We hope to learn what families currently use, what barriers they encounter, and what factors shape their decisions about resources such as print-braille books, audiobooks, and accessible digital technologies.

Our research lab usually pays by the hour for the expertise of those who are blind. However, as required by the NSF I-Corps program, we are not permitted to do so for these 15-minute chats.

Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study

Participants will take part in a remote interview lasting approximately 15 minutes. We will ask about their experiences supporting shared picture-book reading, including the materials and tools they use, how they find and evaluate them, and where current options do or do not meet the needs of blind and sighted readers reading together.

Proposed Participant Compensation

No,
