Last month at the American Alliance of Museums annual meeting in New
Orleans, the National Federation of the Blind
(https://www.nfb.org/our-community/educators) and its partner, 3DPhotoWorks
(https://3dphotoworks.com) , offered practical advice on how museums can
better serve blind and low-vision visitors with tactile and audio
experiences.

3DPhotoWorks co-founder John Olson, Anil Lewis, executive director of the
National Federation of the Blind, and Carrie Christoffersen, executive
director and curator of the Newseum, spoke about creating multisensory
exhibits on an inclusion and accessibility-themed panel moderated by
experience design expert Corey Timpson (https://coreytimpson.com/) . The
Newseum in 2018 became the first U.S. museum to host a major tactile and
audio photography exhibit with ???The Marines and Tet: The Battle that Changed
the Vietnam War. (https://mailchi.mp/3dphotoworks/marines-tet) ???

News coverage from AAM: The Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor

, and US News
(https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/louisiana/articles/2019-06-04/different-ways-to-show-paintings-photos-to-blind-people)
captured the groundbreaking work 3DPhotoWorks and the National Federation of
the Blind have achieved together over the past decade, and how museums
around the world are using technology to make art and photography accessible
to the blind.

Accessible art (https://mailchi.mp/3dphotoworks.com/touching-art) exhibits
can have a life-changing effect on blind museum visitors, who are often
underserved by museums. This video captures the powerful reaction a blind
museum-goer had after experiencing tactile photography.
