This data is an important piece of changing the landscape of accessibility
in K12 as well as making WCAG more applicable to youth users. FYI, the
research has been approved by ISU???s IRB and NFB???s Research Advisory Council.
Thanks for any amplification you have time to do within your networks.
All the Best,
Natalie
Subject: Students Age 13-22 Share Your Story and Help Change Technology
Practices in Education
Are you (or do you know) a blind or low-vision student whose school uses
technology for teaching and learning? Is some of that technology hard or
impossible for you to use due to accessibility barriers? Your story could
help change educators??? and technologists??? ideas about accessible technology.
Previous research has shown that blind people???s stories helped to change
educators??? hearts and minds about accessible technology.
Dr. Natalie Shaheen, Assistant Professor of special education at Illinois
State University and former Director of Education for the National
Federation of the Blind, is doing research to gather blind and low-vision
students??? (age 13-22) stories about using accessible and inaccessible
technology at school. Dr. Shaheen will share the results of the research
with educators and technologists to, hopefully, begin to change some of the
technology practices in education and increase disabled students??? access.
Express interest in participating and learn more about the research.
