A Cut to Medicaid is a Cut to Medicare

68 million individuals are enrolled in Medicare—and one in five rely on
Medicaid to afford and access essential health and long-term care. Without
Medicaid, 12 million Medicare enrollees could not access the care they
need, jeopardizing their health and well-being. Given that nearly 30% of
all Medicaid dollars directly

support Medicare enrollees, any proposed cuts to Medicaid are, in effect,
cuts to Medicare.

Protect Medicaid Caller Script

“Hello, my name is _________ and I’m a constituent and a registered voter
from _______ (state your town).

I would like to speak to the person who handles Medicaid and
disability-related issues for Representative ______________ (If they say to
leave a message) May I leave a message with you?

The message is:

I am calling to strongly urge Representative ___________to Vote NO on the
Budget Resolution with any and all cuts or caps to the Medicaid program, as
it is a lifeline for individuals with disabilities, such as ________ (state
yourself or the person you represent, i.e., your child, spouse, parent, etc.
)

Medicaid is critically important for people with disabilities to maintain
independence and to receive services and supports that make living in the
community possible. Cutting or capping Medicaid would have grave
consequences for the disability community, as it would sever access to
vital care and essential medications needed to survive.”

Explain briefly how Medicaid has been important to you/your family. Tell
Your Story!

Close your message with…

“Representative _______ please support the 1.6 million New Jerseyans with
disabilities and fight with us to protect Medicaid. Thank you for taking
the time to listen.”
