JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

At the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, Our mission is to provide quality individualized vocational rehabilitation services, independent living services and prevention-of-blindness services to blind and visually impaired consumers leading to competitive employment and social and economic independence.
The South Carolina Commission for the Blind welcomes applications for the rewarding career of Prevention of Blindness Counselor.

The Prevention of Blindness Counselor determines eligibility, as outlined in the SCCB Prevention of Blindness policies and Procedures Manual, and coordinates services accordingly. Coordinates medical services for qualified consumers of the Prevention of Blindness Program. Ensures services are financial sponsored through the SCCB and purchase requisitions are prepared. Make necessary follow up contacts with doctor offices and consumers.

MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor's degree and professional experience in human services or social services programs. A master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in healthcare and/or prevention services is highly desirable.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

Considerable knowledge of social services and individuals with disabilities. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. The location of this position is located at the main office in Columbia. Occasional overnight travel is required for training, seminars, consumer activities, ect.
